Napier (Ahuriri in Māori) is a port city in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. It has a population of 57,900 as of the June 2008 estimate.
At 10.47am on February 3rd 1931, an earthquake followed by fire devasted Napier's inner city.

"Out of the ashes grew Napier, Art Deco City, an international icon of Art Deco style and sophistication," according to the city visitors centre website.
Hyperbole aside, the city has a lovely esplanade lined with Norfolk Island Pines, and a soundshell on the edge of the Pacific Ocean.
